Trump's Terrible, Horrible, No-Good Carrier Deal.

The layoffs begin in July.

In December 2016, President-elect Donald Trump triumphantly announced that he had negotiated a deal with Carrier that would save 1,100 jobs that were scheduled to move to Mexico. That was a lie. The deal gives Carrier 7 million dollars over the next ten years and only saved 700 employees.

"Here's what's going to happen," Trump told a crowd in Indianapolis last year. "I'll get a call from the head of Carrier and he'll say, 'Mr. President, we've decided to stay in the United States.' That's what's going to happen — 100 percent."

Carrier's parent company United Technologies, immediately announced (to zero fanfare or media attention) that the deal would allow them to invest 16 million to increase its factory automation.

The company will eliminate a total of 632 jobs at the company's Indianapolis factory — work that will be outsourced to Mexico — with 338 jobs being cut by July 20 and another 290 being cut by Dec. 22, the company said.

The Indianapolis furnace plant pledged to stay in the United States late last year after making a deal with President Trump, but announced today that it will lay off more than 600 workers, the final 290 of which will be fired just before the holiday season.

Carrier apparently bought a copy of "The Art of the Deal."
